“The Great British Baking Show” Set Comedian Matt Lucas As Its New Co-Host

Fans of The Great British Baking Show (or as it’s known in its home country, The Great British Bake-Off) were totally gutted earlier this year when co-host Sandi Toksvig announced she was leaving the show. But now, just two months later, the show has confirmed its new co-host will be comedian Matt Lucas.

Channel 4, which airs the show in the U.K., shared the exciting news via a press release Tuesday. Matt expressed his excitement to be joining the tent in the most adorable statement ever.

“I’m chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television,” he said: “I can’t wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers. And bearing in mind my love of cake, I’ve already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation. See you in the tent!”

His new co-host Noel Fielding, as well judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, also released statements welcoming him to the show’s family.

“The combination of Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding! Will we stop laughing and get any filming done?” Prue said in hers.

Even if you don’t recognize the name Matt Lucas, you probably know his work. He’s known in the U.K. for the show Little Britain and the series Rock Profile. But those of us in the U.S., you likely know him best for roles in Bridesmaids and Doctor Who.

As a quick refresher, Matt will be replacing Sandi after she served as co-host for three years on the show. It was previously hosted by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins for about six years before the show moved networks.

The statement announcing Matt’s casting also contained another exciting tidbit for fans: The show will begin filming again this spring, so you can expect to have another season of soothing reality TV on your screens in no time.
