The news around the COVID-19 outbreak is constantly changing, but information about food safety and how to keep yourself healthy is crucial right now. Here is a comprehensive list on the foods you should be stocking up on during this period of social distancing, as well as information about your local grocery stores’ changing hours, an explanation of “no-contact delivery,” and a guide on how to help your community and its businesses throughout closures.

Many restaurants are continuing to serve customers with takeout and delivery options, and to show appreciation for members in their communities, a lot of companies are also giving out free food to medical professionals and other essential workers. Chipotle is the latest to give away food to healthcare workers.

Chipotle is giving away 100,000 free burritos to healthcare workers in honor of National Burrito Day on April 2. Those who wish to register their medical unit can apply using this form and can receive a free burrito box that will be delivered by DoorDash next week during World Health Worker Week. Burrito boxes come with either 25 or 50 burritos in them.

The chain is also extending its free delivery on orders over $10 made on the Chipotle app or through through April 30. Fans who order on National Burrito Day (again, tomorrow, April 2), will get a free serving of queso blanco when they add it to an entree. Chipotle is also using tamper-evident delivery, which includes a seal or sticker on your order that will ensure the food has not been opened on touched during delivery.

Other food chains like Krispy Kreme and Starbucks are giving free food and beverages to first responders as they work hard addressing the coronavirus outbreak. Chief Marketing Officer of Chipotle Chris Brandt said they want to do their part in providing to their loyal customers.

“We want to express our extreme gratitude by fueling the frontline workers at healthcare facilities across the country with real food,” he said in a press release. “It is our goal to bring joy and provide a little something extra for both the medical staff and our everyday guests.”
