This Baby Cake Smash Was ‘Schitt’s Creek’ Themed

Baby photoshoots are constantly going viral, but this one might just take the cake. In honor of her photography studio’s tenth anniversary, Ute-Christin Cowan set up a Schitt’s Creek-inspired cake smash with baby cast doppelgängers and the results were adorably hilarious.

The studio has done other celebrity look-alike cake smashes in the past, with themes like The Kelly Clarkson Show and Watch What Happens Live, but Cowan wanted the tenth anniversary to be extra special. When her assistant suggested Schitt’s Creek, she knew that was the way to go, but she had to find the perfect babies to star in the shoot.

Cowan told Delish that all of the babies acted just like their respective characters. Moira Rose was played by a 13-month-old named Harper who was “the most energetic and just had the best time.” Johnny Rose was played by a 12-month-old who looked exactly like Eugene Levy when dressed up in his little suit; Cowan said he just “observed the chaos.” Evvi, the 13-month-old who played Alexis Rose, was in Cowan’s words, “a very dramatic little one” and 10-month-old Hudson (who was David Rose) really enjoyed eating the cupcakes.

To accomplish the full Schitt’s Creek aesthetic, they used two different backdrops: one of the Rosebud Motel and the other of the Rose Apothecary. Mini Alexis and David sat in Rose Apothecary and smashed vanilla cupcakes with white and black frosting. Moira and Johnny’s lookalikes posed outside of the motel and ate the “Happy Day Alex & Davis” cake from the Grad Night episode.

The photos came out spot-on, and Cowan told Delish it was such a fun way to celebrate her photography business and the show that’s been making her smile for years: “With this homage, we wanted to thank them for all the laughter and the warm fuzzy feelings in the last five years!”

So wholesome. So cute. And in the words of Moira Rose herself, “how whimsical!”
