Restaurant Review: Nirula’s Yummy Kebabs for Your Tummy

For some months now Nirula’s has been experimenting with special items on the menu. While it could be sacrilegious for someone like Nirula’s to tinker around with its regular menu, Delhi’s homegrown food chain has been offering Specials in the form of food fests for some time now.

Close on the heels of its Thali Special, Nirula’s has a lip-smacking Lucknawi Kebab Mela that is heating things up.

With its constant endeavour to innovate Nirula’s Kebab-e-licious brings together a fantastic concoction of authentic and delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian kebabs from India’s best known place for kebabs.

The festival gets some of the best selections from Lucknow region that include Galouti Kebab, Murg Banno Kebab, Lagan ki Seekh, Paneer Saunfiyana Tikka and Dahi ke Kebab besides some more.

One of the best moving items on Nirulas’ menu has been their signature Thalis and it’s this very concept that the special menus have been based on. Each of these Kebab section comes accompanied by Dal Makhni, Naan, Salad and a nice bottle of your favorite soft drink to help you wash down the food.

The choice of four sumptuous non-vegetarian platters starts at less than Rs. 190 and includes a whole assortment of preparations to choose from. The nice mix of age old recipes and a modern makeover is what ‘Kebab-e-licious’ is about.

While the traditional Chicken Tikka gets a makeover in the form of Murg Banno Kebab platter with tikka coated with eggs, the Galouti Kebab enjoys a distinctive flavour thanks to the mutton smoked and served directly from the hot plate.

The classic Mugh Malai Tikka prepared from the curd, cream and cheese and the Lagan Ki Seekh are the other two options to choose from. The very traditional Seekh Kebabs dipped into Butter gravy topped up with bell peppers are cooked to perfection and by far the best thing on the special menu.

Usually one wouldn’t associate vegetarianism with Kebabs but the option to choose between meat and non-meat products is a given in India. This time around the vegetarian selections also stand tall; the super fine Dahi Ke Kebab Platter wins the contest hands down.

The Vegetarian platters–Dahi Kebab, Paneer Saunfiyana Tikka and Chatpata Tandoori Aloo Platter–are priced between Rs. 190 and Rs. 145 (approx).

To top things off there are the usual suspects like Hot Chocolate Fudge or any of the 21 varieties of ice creams in addition to limited edition ‘Gajar ka Halwa’.

As expected of Nirula’s the meals are great value for money and priced just right. The great thing is that everything on Kebab-e-licious menu is worth trying out twice but the sad thing is that one only has only 10 days to partake on this epicurean voyage!
