Leinenkugel’s New Spritzen Is A Beer-Seltzer Combo

Leinenkugel’s has owned the shandy market for eons, and with good reason: Its weiss beer and lemonade combo hits the spot on hot summer days. Well, Leinenkugel’s has now gotten in on the canned seltzer market with a totally unique spin.

The Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company announced earlier this week that it’s rolling out a new trio of beers with a splash of seltzer called Leinenkugel’s Spritzen. Spritzen comes in three delicious-sounding flavors: grapefruit, raspberry lemon, and pineapple strawberry.

According to Leinenkugel’s, Spritzen has a “beer-forward taste” but with a “clean finish and subtle fruit flavors of a seltzer.” So, it’s not quite a hard seltzer and not quite a beer—it’s firmly in the middle. Spritzen also has no sugar and no artificial ingredients.

In a press release, Leinenkugel’s brand strategy and engagement lead Katie Leinenkugel called the new drink “the best of both worlds.”

“Spritzen is the refreshing intersection between beer’s timeless taste and the modern rise of seltzers. We know that drinkers enjoy seltzer’s better-for-you qualities but miss the taste of beer, and Spritzen is the perfect option to fill that need,” she added.

This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about Spritzen; Leinenkugel’s announced in November that it was in development.

The new drink will be available in three different packs: a 12-pack featuring all three flavors, a six-pack of raspberry lemon and pineapple strawberry, and a six-pack of just grapefruit.

Spritzen is expected to roll out in stores this week, so be sure to keep an eye out!
